Life’s Lessons:

When Toby Follows damaged his first car jumping railroad tracks with his brother he got one of life’s great lessons.

That lesson is that people really respect things that they work to achieve. After driving home with three wheels in contact with

One of the Superlite Coupes

the ground Toby proceeded to purchase a 69 GTO Judge. He painstakingly restored the car (except for paint) and found a calling for his future. Toby wanted to build cars. With sons learned from his dad he studies Aeronautical Engineering while doing side jobs for people in the car restoration arena and funded his own projects with the earnings. During his studies he discovered the great similarity between race car and airplane aerodynamics. His fascination and love for the endurance prototype cars led him on a life journey that has brought him to currently offer endurance prototype styled cars for public sale.

One of the many Cobra roadsters Toby has built

The journey into motorsports grows into a business:

The first “kit” that Toby built was a Cobra by Johnex. During this build Toby re- engineered many components and learned how to operate an English Wheel and Tig welder. Subsequently buying all the fabrication tools for a custom car to ensure a top quality finished product, the build lasted two years. During the build he assembled two kits for customers and funded his build with the money he made from those projects. As a full time firefighter he was able to use his days between shifts to work on the kit projects. While helping a friend restore some muscle cars he saw the errors in their design and went back to the racetrack for inspiration. While looking over vintage race cars he was struck by the simplicity, beauty, and excellence in engineering that they seemed to have in common. He had finally found his calling.  Combining his fabrication and assembly skill with the design and simplicity of the vintage cars, he embarked on a new business venture. Starting out building customized Cobra kits for Johnex, he gradually expanded into restoring Lola’s, and other Can Am cars. After clarifying his desire to build customized high end race cars for customers he ran across Fran Hall of Race Car Replicas. Fran and Toby hit it off immediately and Toby agreed to be Fran’s Canadian dealer. Toby agreed to buy the kits from Fran and offers them to Canadian (or U.S.) customers with whatever customization the customer desires. His company is Campbell Race Concepts, or CRC (a nice reversal of the RCR moniker).

Cars for the serious track day junky or the weekend warrior:

A built race engine for one of CRC's cars.

CRC offers many options to the purist from reverse engineering prototype parts to custom engineering entirely new ones. we will fabricate and build cars to the customer specification that can be turn key-race, turnkey-street, turn key minus or to whatever degree the customer chooses. we also offer full support for those wishing to tackle the project on their own and give them the confidence to feel that they have someone in their corner should they need it. We will sell our cars in Kit form if they would like and assist them through the maze of paperwork and restrictions that Canada customs imposes on these cars so they don’t get into trouble. So whether you plan on going for a weekend cruise, a weeklong trip to the mountains, or a day at the track, CRC can help you achieve your goals.

Top shelf design and fabrication is for people with a passion for these cars:

Should you prefer CRC to build your car to your specification then depending on how extreme the car will be, the price may vary. GT40 typically start around 130,000 (all estimates are in Canadian dollars) and go up , the SL-C starts around 140,000 and goes up from there. Porsche 917 if they are tube chassis, as the real ones were begin around 170,000 and if they are hybrid meaning half monocoque half tube then they run from 140,000 and go up from there. CRC also builds a exact copy of the Porsche 962 and that is priced on specification. The Lola T70 spider is much the same as the GT40 in price and again these are rough figures and every one is different. The reason CRC uses RCR products is not just because of the proximity (they are only about a three hour drive apart), but because they are truly replicas and have been extensively engineered the customer is getting authentic race car designs.  The attention to detail is top-shelf and the mindset of the principles in the company mirrors those at CRC. I also have had the pleasure of meeting Fran Hall, and visiting his shop in Michigan is a treat for any car fanatic. CRC builds super cars that are in keeping with the legendary cars they represent. They haven’t been stretched , they haven’t been widened, they are respective in every detail to the real ones . Their performance specifications are awesome and power to weight is unmatched from any production based car and it is the latter that makes safety a key point. Having a race background has taught me that production based components are quite often not designed for the rigors of racing and therefore donor parts should be avoided if your intentions are to do track duty. The components manufactured by RCR are not only beautiful but have racing at their root and track duty is something that they thrive on. The process for purchasing a car from CRC begins with a dream. Very often the particular car in question has been either a childhood favorite or a car somewhere in their past that has struck something deep inside and left an indelible impression but up to this point it has either been unattainable because of availability or simply so rare that cost prevents acquisition. We at CRC make what many until recently have deemed impossible to being a reality. The most famous race cars of legend are now within many peoples grasp and at prices that are within budgetary reason. This I believe was the whole premise of the kit car industry at its beginning but now it has matured to a degree of sophistication that many are too busy or lack the ability to build many of these cars as the days of bathtub fiberglass and VW chassis have long since faded.

These kit cars have morphed into chassis specific, high performance race cars that require time and money to properly prepare

This is a far cry from the old pan based kits of the 1970s.

and many lack the time due to work constraints to see these projects through to their fruition and hence many reside incomplete and dusty in the corners of workshops.  CRC takes these dreams and then painstakingly hand builds the car in the owner’s image providing a level of satisfaction and pride that is befitting such an endeavor. The owners may not have a ” hands on” involvement but they are very much involved in every aspect of the design of the car giving them the same feeling as if they were the ones operating the English wheel or turning the specific piece themselves on the lathe. When the car is finished which usually takes between 9 months to a year the resultant auto will hopefully be the car that has been the very object d`art that they always dreamed of one day owning.

Now is a great time to take advantage CRC’s offerings:

You will be smiling if you get the chance to own one of CRC's custom fabricated machines.

CRC is the official dealer for RCR in Canada but will build for customers anywhere in the world and will ship anywhere in the world. CRC will also help design parts and will fabricate them to customer needs. CRC will provide track support for the weekend warrior and will maintain customer cars for those that can’t or those that would just like to enjoy a highly tuned race car while having professionals maintain their beloved sports cars. This service is also available for those with vintage racers all the way to modern day sports cars of all manufacturers.  Many times CRC are asked about warranty. This is a contentious issue as many of the components are aftermarket race parts and carry their own manufacturer’s warranty.  CRC stands behind their products. The warranty is not mileage or time specific, but rest assured that this is not a fly by night operation that will leave the customer without support. Please contact CRC for details.  The CRC customer is quite often a successful business person. They are quite often individuals looking for something unique and handcrafted. They are not ones to find enjoyment in what we term as `Bellybutton Cars“ (everyone has one) and are more interested in the performance attributes than most.  They also enjoy and understand the pride of ownership that comes with rare and exotic things and they thoroughly enjoy the notoriety of being the fastest and one of the most envied cars prowling the streets.  The competition that we face are usually exotic cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, CAV, Superformance, all of which are quality cars. It ultimately boils down to personal taste and I love them all and if it were within my means I would have one of each. The aspect that makes CRC`s cars so desirable is not just that they are visibly different and very unique but its the exclusiveness that comes with ownership and the lifestyle that you can choose to be a part of. They are extremely rare and CRC never paints the same car the same color twice. We may do different shades of a paint scheme but never the same so if you are at a function you will not run into a car that looks exactly like yours ever. The customers own the paint schemes and if someone wishes to have the same scheme they must have written approval from the existing owner before we will proceed. Its a small thing but it has a huge impact and maintains that uniqueness that you cannot get from a large manufacturer.

Each CRC car has a unique paint scheme that the shop will not duplicate.

We encourage our customers to come to our track days and participate in our driving schools to ensure the experience of super car performance is realized in a safe and somewhat controlled environment.  CRC goes the extra mile to ensure the ownership experience that could not possibly be afforded by the larger manufacturers and always strives to provide a more race like experience than just a dealership experience. This is the real thing. CRC’s racing background has left an indelible impression and the people at CRC feel the ownership of a super car requires this kind of attention to detail that goes way beyond the car itself.
